Regulations on the Review Committee Members

Article 1
The purpose of these Regulations is to define the matters concerning the review of the theses to be considered for publication in the theses journal of the Korean Information Display Society.

Article 2
The Deputy Editors-in-Chief of the Committee (hereinafter referred to as “Deputy Editors-in-Chief”) shall divide the theses received by them in each field and shall commission two among them to review each thesis through nomination by the Committee member in the applicable field.

Article 3
KIDS may prepare a “request for review” of a thesis and may forward it to the Review Committee members. The name and position of the author of the thesis to be reviewed shall not be reflected in such request for review to avoid any bias on the part of the Review Committee members.

Article 4
Each Review Committee member shall review the thesis requested for review, shall evaluate it in each detailed category, and shall come up with any one of the following five decisions in relation to its publication: (A) Publish as is; (B) Publish with modification; (C) Provisionally acceptable for publication; (D) Reject; and (E) Recommend to other journals. The Review Committee member shall cite the concrete basis of his correction, and in the event that decision B (publish with modification) is arrived at, the contents to be corrected and/or supplemented shall be specified. The detailed categories for review shall be set forth under the Supplementary Provisions.

Article 5
The Deputy Editors-in-Chief of the Committee shall go through the following process in accordance with the result of the thesis review conducted by the two assigned Review Committee members, and they shall inform the Editor-in-Chief of the Committee of the same:

  1. If the thesis review result is A or B, the thesis can be published in KIDS’ theses journal. In the case of decision B, however, where a request for correction or modification is made by the reviewers, the applicable thesis shall be published in KIDS’ theses journal only after the correction or modification is made.
  2. If the review result is C, the author/s shall be notified of the reviewers’ decision so that they could make the necessary revisions. If the result of the re-review is A or B, the thesis shall be published in KIDS’ theses journal.
  3. If the review result is D, the author/s shall be informed of the reviewers’ decision not to publish the thesis in KIDS’ theses journal.
  4. If the review result is E, the author/s of the applicable thesis shall be advised to endeavor to have his thesis published in another journal.
  5. After going through the above review procedure, the author/s shall be required to go through the following procedure: requesting for final revision -> English proofreading -> editing -> galley proofreading -> printing.
  6. The above steps shall be followed, but this notwithstanding, the editor may arrive at a decision that is different from the initial result of the thesis review if the circumstances warrant it.

Article 6
If a Review Committee member recognizes that any of the following items applies to a thesis for review, the thesis shall be “Rejected,” and the grounds for such shall be explained in detail (if item #4, however, applies to the thesis for review, the author/s shall be given a notice of rejection and shall be advised to endeavor to have his thesis published in another journal):

  1. does not reflect creativity in the contents of the study that was conducted;
  2. the research outcome is not very different from those of another thesis that had already been published;
  3. has unclear research results;
  4. the research contents are inappropriate for the field of information display; or
  5. has been recognized as inappropriate for publication in KIDS’ theses journal.

Article 7
A Review Committee member who is commissioned to conduct a thesis review shall immediately notify KIDS if the review cannot be finished within 20 days and shall return the pertinent documents. If the reviewers fail to submit their review opinion within the prescribed period, the Deputy Editors-in-Chief of the Committee shall dismiss the concerned Review Committee members and shall re-commission the other Review Committee members nominated by the Committee member in the applicable field to undertake the thesis review.

Article 8
The list of the reviewers of a thesis shall not be announced.

Article 9
The contents of a thesis review shall not be made available to anyone other than the author/s of the applicable thesis.

Article 10
After receiving the reviewers’ review report, KIDS shall forward a copy of such to the author/s of the thesis that was reviewed within a week, or shall send a copy to him via fax.

Article 11
The author/s of a thesis that is requested to be corrected, as indicated in the review statement, shall modify the thesis in accordance with the reviewers’ requested correction and shall submit their reply and corrected copy to KIDS within the allotted period.

Article 12
All theses that are finalized for publication shall be forwarded to the person in charge of calibration for English in KIDS, and shall be edited. They shall then be returned to KIDS via fax or e-mail.

Article 13
When a thesis is returned to KIDS after English calibration, a Committee meeting shall be held, and the contents of the thesis manuscript shall be confirmed therein.

Article 14
All the manuscripts that have been finalized by the Committee for publication shall be forwarded to the publishing company after modification is done, through the stipulation of the person in charge of editing the manuscript and of the publishing company that shall print the manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief of the Committee shall then confirm the manuscript’s publication for the last time.
